Important Information – Please Read Before Completing This Form

Aberdare Community School wishes to use information about your child as part of an automated recognition system for catering purposes. The information from your child that we wish to use is referred to as 'Biometric Information'.

Under the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 and the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (sections 26–28), we are required to notify each parent and obtain the written consent of at least one parent before using a child's biometric information for an automated system.

Biometric information is information about a person's physical or behavioural characteristics that can be used to identify them — for example, information from their fingerprints. The school would like to take and use information from your child's finger for the purpose of providing access to the cashless canteen system. This information will be converted into a template (measurements only — no image of your child's finger is stored). The template will be used to permit your child to access services.

The school will not use the biometric information for any purpose other than that stated above, and will store it securely without sharing it with any third parties other than the supplier of the biometric system.

You can withdraw consent at any time in writing. Even if you have consented, your child may object or refuse at any time — their objection does not need to be in writing. If consent is not given, or your child objects, the school will provide a reasonable alternative arrangement for canteen access. When your child leaves the school, or ceases to use the biometric system, their biometric data will be deleted.
